Hedge Trimming
Hedges are a great way of creating privacy, providing a home for nature and breaking up the garden, but if you don’t keep on top of your hedges they can soon become overgrown and end up looking a mess.
Hedge trimming takes specialist knowledge to get right – if you trim a conifer after for example this can encourage bare patches to develop in the hedge. It’s also an offence under the Wildlife & Country Act 1981 to damage or destroy the nest of any bird, so precautions have to be taken before carrying out any trimming work to ensure nests are safely removed.

Tree Surgery
Tree surgery doesn’t just involve removing a tree, it also involves giving them a bit of TLC to keep them as healthy as possible and have them looking their best. Tree pruning can provide the following benefits:
- It changes the shape of the tree, so if you whether you want your tree to grow thin and tall or round and bushy this can be achieved.
- It removes any dead or diseased branches, which could be sapping energy from the rest of the tree.
- Thinning dense canopies can increase air and sunlight, which not only helps to prevent disease in the tree but can also reduce the amount of shaded space you have in your garden.
Have an old stump lying around your garden can in some cases be a feature, giving off a woodland vibe, providing somewhere to sit and even acting as a table. But when this is the case the stumps have usually been shaped and treated elsewhere, rather than just being from an old tree in the garden. When they haven’t been treated elsewhere, they can end up looking unsightly, as well as taking space from your garden that could be used for more attractive features.
There are also the health risks – tree stumps can spread decay and attract many unwanted insects that can spread to other parts of your garden, providing a health risk for all of your plants. There is also the issue of the stump growing fungi, which can be poisonous and therefore pose a threat to children and pets.
For this reason, as well as your garden looking more aesthetically pleasing afterwards, it’s always best to remove a tree stump. You’ll always be surprised by how much extra space you have afterwards.
Removing Invasive Plants
Whilst some invasive plant species can look attractive, they can cause havoc in a garden; spreading rapidly and stunting the growth (or in some cases stopping the growth) of other plants and flowers.
